Description

The Latin word for these is “bulla.” Having a reasonably standard size, shape, and weight allowed the possibility of improving aim.

The Romans used spears as part of their military kit from the start until the end. At a certain point the back ends started being fitted with a metal point. The point could be driven into the ground to provide stability against a charging hoseman.
