Description

The Saudi family held the emirate in the town of Diriyah in Nejd. In the mid-18th century the emir (amir), Muhammad ibn Saud, allied with the mullah Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Al-Wahhab, and proceeded to conquer most of Arabia except Oman and Yemen. The Ottomans took most of it away from him. After World War I the Sauds fought with the Hashemites, eventually the Sauds kicked the Hashemites out of Arabia. One of them became King of Iraq, another founded the line that came to rule Jordan. Saudi Arabia today is an absolute monarchy.

The political arrangements that resulted in the nations of modern Europe began to emerge out of local autonomy starting in the 7th century AD or so. Europe, for our purposes, stretches from Greenland to somewhere in Russia. Collectors of Europe would likely include Russia. Collectors of Asia, even though about 2/3 of Russia is in Asia, probably not.
