I’ll say this: some of the 19th century coin designs were really nice, and it would be nice, at a time when people mostly don’t use coins in daily commerce, to see some of those 19th century designs in the pocket change that we rarely accumulate.
In the world of coins there are what we could call “great coin issuing countries.” All governments have to pay attention to the money if they want to keep going, but some governments are about other things besides money, and some are mostly about money. There are a lot of “American” coins to collect.
By “Modern World Coins” we mean here, generally, the round, flat, shiny metal objects that people have used for money and still do. “Modern,” though, varies by location. There was some other way they were doing their economies, and then they switched over to “modern coins,” then they went toward paper money, now we’re all going toward digital, a future in which kids look at a coin and say “What’s that?” We’ll say: “We used to use those to buy things.” Kids will ask “How?” The main catalog reference is the Standard Catalog of World Coins, to which the KM numbers refer.
