Description
The wooden nickel period in the USA was approximately the 1930s to the 1980s. After that a nickel wasn’t worth anything so they would have had to go to wooden dollars and it just didn’t pay. Who wants a wooden nickel in their pocket. For about 50 years, though, they were pretty popular, and 10s of thousands of types were made.
A token is used like a coin but is not a coin. Rather, it stands for a coin without the value of the coin. Maybe its copper, but says its value is the same as a silver coin. Usually tokens were made privately, but sometimes governments got involved.
