Description

Micipsa was a son of Massinissa. Early in his reign a war broke out between Numidia and Carthage, which grew to involve Rome in the Third Punic War. When he died his kingdom was divided amongst his three sons.

Ancient Africa developed several power centers along the Mediterranean coast from Mauritania in the west to Egypt in the east. Numidia was a Berber kingdom in Libya. It started out in the 3rd century BC as an ally of Rome, but relations took a downturn and the wars that resulted eventually demolished the Numidian state. Rome took over and made Numidia a client state, then, later, it became part of the Roman province of Africa.
